Kansas State Senator Donald Betts Jr.
A Wichita native, Kansas State Senator Donald Betts Jr. has served his state legislative district in both the Kansas House and Senate. In the 2006-2007 legislative session, Senator Betts sponsored a bill to divest Kansas Public Employees Retirement funds from the government in Sudan as a response to the genocide in Darfur. Thanks in large part to Senator Betts’ perseverance and leadership, the bill passed with overwhelming support and was signed into law on May 11, 2007. Since then, Senator Betts consistent support of anti-genocide initiatives has made him a wonderful ally in the fight to end genocide. Senator Betts will also serve as a keynote speaker at the June 2 relay send-off event in Wichita, KS.
